Hollywood Glamour

I've long wanted to recreate portraits in the style of George Hurrell and C.S. Bull. These men and others were emploed by the great movie studios to portray an image of beauty and glamour for the actors and actresses under contract to MGM, Warner Bros., R.K.O., etc. Spotlights, floodlights and reflectors were precisely placed. Large 8x10 studio view cameras were used and the resulting film sheets were hand-processed and meticulously retouched. Modern digital cameras and computer retouching makes this process easier, but the lighting still requires careful placement and exposures. My beautiful model Leslie was wonderfully patient as I worked to imitate this nearly forgotten style of portraiture.

More of Jessica

Jessica is in her element with these images taken at the Regent University Communications and Performing Arts Center. Special thanks go out to Rick Hall and the staff at Regent for permission to use this beautiful facility. Also, thanks to Christine, Jessica's Mom, for making the arrangements with Regent University.

Jessica

Jessica is a blast to photograph. Not only is she incredibly beautiful and a natural in front of the camera, she is quite a character. Notice the last image!

Back to the Beach (and to work!)

It's been a slow winter, but things are definitely starting to get busy again. I met Kelly and Jason at our usual beach location for their engagement portraits. The weather was threatening, but turned out to be beautiful.

Alissa

Alissa took advantage of an unusually warm December day to have her senior portraits done around Riverwalk in Chesapeake. Alissa is a senior at Bishop Sullivan Catholic High School in Virginia Beach. She has graciously agreed to be one of our spokesmodels; our first at Sullivan Catholic.
